Facebook is selling protected areas of the Amazon rainforest on its “Facebook marketplace.” And the killer thing is it’s refusing to take these ads down.
The areas include protected forests and Indigenous peoples’ land. Each day these ads stay up is another day the Amazon is sold off piece-by-piece to greedy investors looking to slash and burn the forest.
Facebook is really vulnerable right now. It’s reeling from crisis to crisis. Its reputation is battered, and the company is bruised. This means we’ve got a good chance of forcing it to take these forest-destroying ads down.
